A Case of Congenital Dermal Sinus of the Upper Thoracic Region

Abstract
A case of congenital dermal sinus of the upper thoracic region in 18-year-old Korean girl was experienced at the Pusan National University Hospital. The patient had been fair except for a small dimple in the midline of the back between the third and fourth thoracic vertebrae present and having one or two times of nocturnal enuresis monthly since birth.
It has been insisted that a congenital dermal sinus makes a source of meningeal infection in medical literature, but in this case there had been no infection and no complaints for 18 years since birth until 3 months before admission.
She had been suffered from the urinary retention, paraplegia and suspended dissociated anesthesia of
the fourth and fifth thoracic spinal cutaneous dermatome level since 3 months before admission.
The operation revealed that the congenital dermal sinus had penetrated the dura and reached as far
as into the spinal cord itself, and the deep cul-de-sac had possessed the cutaneous appendages. She has been well and back to her job 10 months later since the surgery in April 1966. .
